Michael Vick has won an award — for exemplifying a commitment to the principles of sportsmanship and courage, no less. The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, who returned to the NFL after spending 18 months in a federal prison for his role in a dogfighting ring, won the Ed Block Courage Award, voted on by his teammates. “I’ve had to overcome a lot, more than probably one single individual can bear,” Vick said. “You ask certain people to walk in my shoes, they probably couldn’t do it — probably 95 percent of the people in this world.” It’s easy to be skeptical about a animal abuser winning an award for courage, but if the Grinch can have a change of heart, perhaps, too, so can Vick.
