Vices I Admire aren’t letting Denver’s busy underground rock scene rest one bit in the new year. The guitar-driven alt-pop band will release its latest disc, “The Politics of Apathy,” tonight at the Bluebird Theater, with Glass Delirium, Other Side of Clearview and the Pilot Light. Check out Eryc Eyl’s “Steal This Track” column on for a free download from the album. $10. Ticketmaster.

Cowboy Mouth is smart to make a stop here when it leaves its native New Orleans, considering how well the cheeky pop-rock band does here. But don’t be fooled by the name or city of origin — these guys traffic in crisp, upfront modern rock, not blues, jazz or country. The band visits the Bluebird as part of its 14th annual Rock ‘n’ Roll Mardi Gras Tour (yeah, we know it’s a bit early, but they’re encouraging costumes) on Saturday with Junior Brown. $25-$28. Ticketmaster.

Quemando will heat things up Saturday at the Boulder Theater with its New Year Salsa Party, featuring live music from the Boulder-based band and dancing lessons from Denver’s Unleashed Dance Studios and its unique Afro-salsa style. You can shake it on the floor during their set, or just sit back and watch the party. $14. With opener DJ Ryflecks.
