Maybe it’s not all about winning after all, at least in Big 12 football.
First, Colorado coach Dan Hawkins was able to save his job despite going 16-33 in his first four seasons. In explaining his decision to retain Hawkins, CU athletic director Mike Bohn complimented his coach for running his program the right way, even if the won-lost record isn’t much to brag about.
Then Kansas coach Mark Man- gino, who took the Jayhawks to new heights, resigned Dec. 3 — just days after the school launched an internal investigation into his treatment of players.
Wednesday, Texas Tech’s Mike Leach, right, the Red Raiders’ winningest coach, was fired. Leach’s dismissal stemmed from his alleged mistreatment of an injured player.
“I’m very sad to say there’s only one person to blame for this and it’s Mike Leach,” Texas Tech chancellor Kent Hance told The Associated Press.
