VAIL, Colo.—Eagle County transit officials are looking for sponsors as they try to restore late-night bus service from Vail.
The ECO Transit agency says it would take about $70,000 to restore the service for the rest of ski season.
The agency’s board cut night owl service and raised fares as it faced a $2 million hole in the 2009 budget. In the past, buses ran until 2 a.m., but now the last westbound bus leaves Vail at midnight.
ECO says it gets about 80 percent of its funding from a dedicated sales tax, whose revenues have fallen by about 20 percent.
An average of about 40 people rode the late-night buses per night last year. More than 500 people have signed petitions urging the county to restore the service.
