The NHL on Tuesday tabbed Avalanche center Matt Duchene the rookie of the month for December.
Duchene led all rookies in scoring with 13 points (five goals, eight assists) in 14 games.
He scored points in nine games while the Avs went 8-5-1 for the month.
Duchene is within one point of the NHL rookie scoring lead with a run of 20 points in his past 22 games. He has 27 points, trailing only No. 1 overall draft pick John Tavares of the New York Islanders.
Other players up for the award included Avs left wing T.J. Galiardi, who had three goals and eight points in December.
