A SWAT standoff in Englewood has come to an end with police finding an empty apartment where they were told a gunman was hiding.
The incident started at about 6:35 a.m. near the 200 block of West Grand Avenue, said Perry Schellpfeffer, an Englewood Police Department spokesman.
The armed man pulled a gun on another man but didn’t fire any shots, police said. The apparent victim told police the gunman went into a third-story apartment and the man who was threatened called police.
Officers tried to contact the man inside the apartment but no one answered, Schellpfeffer said.
The SWAT team and a police negotiator were called to the scene and tried to get the armed man to come out of the apartment.
After several hours police entered the apartment with a pass key and found no one iside.
Two men, one in Denver and one in Commerce City, who may be connected to the incident have been contacted by police, Schellpfeffer said.
The man who said he was the threatened was interviewed and police are now trying to determine the credibility of his report, Schellpfeffer said.
The apartment complex where the incident unfolded is across the street from Englewood Middle School.
The school was made aware of the situation by police and precautionswere taken but the school was not locked down, an Englewood School District spokeswoman said.
No residences in the area were evacuated.
