A 45-year-old woman died last night from injuries suffered in a car crash in Lakewood that may have involved alcohol.
Amalia P. Santana-Lopez was killed in the fatal, two-car crash which happened at about 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of West Bayaud Avenue and South Sheridan Boulevard, according to a Lakewood Police Department media release.
Santana-Lopez was driving a Ford Escort southbound on Sheridan when her car was struck by a northbound Chevrolet Blazer which “likely” crossed into the southbound lane, police said.
The blazer was driven by 37-year-old Tracey Armijo, police said.
Both women, who were alone in their vehicles, were taken to an area hospital where Santana-Lopez was pronounced dead a short time later, police said.
The preliminary investigation reveals that Armijo was driving while intoxicated, although police are awaiting final test results, the release said.
Armijo faces possible charges of DUI, vehicular homicide, careless driving resulting in death and driving with a suspended license, police said.
