A Denver Police K-9 officer was reunited with his pawed partner in Conifer tonight after the dog jumped from the officer’s stopped vehicle in pursuit of a deer.
The officer ran after his K-9 partner, Duke, but lost sight of the dog near the King Sooopers at 25637 Conifer Road about 10 a.m.
A citizen called the Jefferson County Sheriff after spotting Duke late in the afternoon. Denver Police K-9 officers recovered the German Shepherd unharmed and returned him to his owner.
“He is a dog. He’s not a human like you and me and there’s no way to predict everything he’s going to do,” Matthew Murray, Denver police spokesman said.
Described as a very social dog, Duke is one of nine patrol dogs in the unit.
All available dogs and officers from the unit helped in the search, Murray said.
