Colorado Mines wide receiver Adam Saur caught three passes for 34 yards for the West squad at the Cactus Bowl — the all-star game for Division II football — in Kingsville, Texas, on Friday night. The West defeated the East 16-0.

CSU-Pueblo linebacker Chase Vaughn was credited with five tackles and a pass breakup. Chadron State tight end Isaac Stockton (Mitchell High School) did not catch a pass.

Stephen Hazel is returning to coach the Denver Barbarians rugby club Super League team, the club announced late Thursday, and he will oversee the development of the “Barbos'” D1 program. Hazel coached the Barbarians in the 1998 and 1999 seasons, with Denver winning the USA Super League title in 1999.

Justin Fontaine had two goals and Mike Connolly had a goal and two assists as Minnesota-Duluth defeated third-ranked Colorado College 5-2 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.

Fontaine, who leads the nation in power-play goals, had two Friday to increase his season total to 11 for the 13th-ranked Bulldogs (13-7-1, 9-5-1 WCHA). He has 15 goals on the season.

UMD responded with four straight goals after Stephan Schultz opened the scoring for Colorado College (12-6-3, 8-4-3) midway through the first period.

• Tim Kirby forced a turnover and fed Jacques Lamoureux, who gave the puck back to Kirby in the slot, where he converted with 2:46 left to give Air Force (9-8-4, 9-4-4 Atlantic Hockey) a 2-1 win over Connecticut at the Cadet Ice Arena.
