Loveland SWAT officers arrested a barricaded man who threatened to shoot them and kill himself late Friday night, authorities say.

Officers were called to a house on East Fourth Street after 6 p.m., officials said.

Robert Townsend III had barricaded himself inside the house, and when police arrived, he threatened to shoot them, officials said.

Police said they gave Townsend numerous chances to surrender peacefully, but he refused to leave the house. Finally, SWAT officers fired chemicals into the house.

Townsend then came out of the house and was arrested.

He was taken to a hospital and, when medically cleared, was taken to the Larimer County Dentention Center.
