BOULDER, Colo.—A federal judge says Boulder County must pay Rocky Mountain Christian Church $1.34 million for attorney’s fees and “reasonable costs” in a legal battle over the church’s plans to expand.

The ruling came this week. The church had requested $1.89 million.

The church sued the county after commissioners in 2006 denied its request to nearly double its 128,000-square-foot campus in Niwot.

U.S. District Judge Robert Blackburn ruled last year that the commissioners violated a law protecting churches from discriminatory land-use laws and must allow the church to expand. The church’s expansion has been halted, though, while commissioners appeal the ruling.
