Year 2008 wasn’t the best real estate year Denver ever had…but plenty of change was still happening at Stapleton, the master-planned community that’s transformed Denver’s old airport into a new kind of comprehensive lifestyle with over 20 parks, shops, lots of dining, and some of the most appealing choices of schools.
Would you believe that every last student in the first two graduating classes at Denver School of Science & Technology in Stapleton have been accepted by 4-year colleges? “Stapleton has become a stellar example of what urban education can be,” Tom Gleason of Forest City Stapleton told me during a tour. Part of the appeal, he added, is the “customer friendly” feel in new partnership arrangements with parents.
The schools continued to be a factor in home sales at Stapleton…around 500 sold in 2008, including around 350 new homes. You can tour those today all over the community, but you’ll absolutely want to see the community’s new Central Park North neighborhood, where some of the most appealing prices await, from KB Home, Harvard Communities, Infinity Home Collection, McStain Neighborhoods, Parkwood Homes and New Town Builders…at prices from the mid-$2s to the $7s.
Centerpiece for all of that is new, 80-acre Central Park, which opened a year ago. “It’s a new, very different kind of park,” says Tasha Jones, Marketing Director. “Lots trails and ballfields, but lots of natural area, too.” Meanwhile, work pushes ahead on the 14-mile Sand Creek Greenway that passes through Stapleton, on its way toward Fitzsimons Medical Science Center just to the east. “We’re looking at the trail as a transportation corridor as well as a recreation site,” says Jones, who adds that numbers of recent buyers have been docs at Fitzsimons, who like the idea of biking to work.
You can explore all of that today west of Quebec Street on MLK…including Town Center on 29th with its Safeway, Starbucks, new ‘Blue Fin’ sushi place, and venerable Casey’s Irish pub (getting ready for a big St. Paddy’s Day celebration). Or, you can arrange a personalized tour of Stapleton by calling 303-382-1800…even one customized around your work interest.
Not surprisingly, one of the first groups to take advantage of those have been doctors. Jones adds that Stapleton homes have held their value well in spite of the economy.
