The bumps of Beaver Creek are primed for the seventh annual Talons Challenge set for Saturday.
Beginning at 8:30 a.m., an expected 1,500 skiers and snowboarders registered before the cutoff at noon Thursday will attempt to conquer the 13 runs and 24,000 vertical feet of black diamond and double-black diamond terrain awaiting on the flanks of Beaver Creek’s Birds of Prey downhill course, Grouse Mountain and Larkspur Bowl.
While some runs will be groomed for the event, most participants will want mogul skis if they intend to complete the feat in a single day. Those who do will earn a custom hat and a spot on the Talons Wall of Fame.
Do it: Registration is available online at (877-228-4881) until noon Thursday. A portion of the $15 fee benefits SOS Outreach. Participants must supply their own lift ticket.
