LAFAYETTE, Colo.—The city of Lafayette plans to close its public library once a week to help deal with declining sales tax revenues.
The City Council plans to finalize the decision next month and begin closing the library Friday on March 5. City officials say the closure is necessary in part because sales tax revenues are down 3 percent from 2008.
The library’s annual budget is just under $1 million and closing once a week would save an estimated $26,000 a year.
Lafayette is also cutting out-of-state travel for city employees to address budget concerns.
