FORT COLLINS, Colo.—Colorado State University has dedicated a 2-megawatt solar plant, one of the country’s largest solar arrays at a university.

Fotowatio Renewable Ventures owns and operates the plant, which features more than 8,000 solar panels covering 15 acres on Colorado State’s Foothills campus in Fort Collins.

Colorado State President Tony Frank said Friday that the solar plant and biomass boiler that started operating last year are helping lower the school’s energy costs. He says the university expects to save more than $2 million in electric costs over the next 20 years.

Mark Wilkerson of Trina Solar, which is providing the solar panels, says the array is one of the largest at any U.S. university.
