Light snow began to fall on parts of downtown Denver before rush hour today. By morning, roads could be tricky with 1 to 3 inches of accumulation in the forecast, the Denver Public Works Department warned this afternoon.

“Snow intensity is expected to be low and manageable, however we are expecting localized slick conditions for morning rush hour,” the department said in a statement.

Crews are expected to work overnight to keep roads clear.

Denver has a 70 percent chance of snow tonight, and 60 percent Thursday, though the metro region is expected to pick up only about a half inch in the morning before temperatures warm into the upper 30s Thursday afternoon, according to the forecast.

Friday in Denver is expected to be clear as highs warm to mid-40s. Saturday and Sunday are expected to be mild, as well, with highs near 50.

The Pacific storm is expected to rake southern Colorado and New Mexico much harder, creating travel woes the next few days.

In southwest Colorado, buried by a blizzard last week, the latest winter storm could drop a fresh 16 inches by morning.

The Sangre de Cristo and Wet mountain ranges could see a foot of snow and windy conditions Thursday, according to the National Weather Service office in Pueblo.
