Alexe Gilles, a student at Cheyenne Mountain High School in Colorado Springs, was ninth after Wednesday’s women’s short program of the Four Continents Figure Skating Championships in Jeonju, South Korea.
Gilles, 18, who finished eighth at last week’s national championships, scored 48.90 points. Akiko Suzuki of Japan led with 58.88, with American Amanda Dobbs second at 57.56.
DU’s Haugen bound for Olympics.
University of Denver skier Leif Kristian Haugen will be on Norway’s alpine team at the Vancouver Olympics.
Haugen, a sophomore from Lommedalen, Norway, has won both of his slalom races this season and was second in both giant slaloms. Haugen earned NCAA first-team All-America honors last spring after pacing Denver to its 20th national title with a second-place finish in the giant slalom and a third in the slalom at the NCAA championships.
Rapids’ opener moves up.
The Rapids’ season opener at Chivas USA in Carson, Calif., has been changed from March 28 to March 26 at 8:30 p.m. The home opener against Chicago is April 3 at 2 p.m.
The Rapids also announced the annual preseason “Burgundy & Blue Game” will be changed to a “Charity Shield” match, with proceeds going to UNICEF to help with earthquake relief in Haiti. The match will be Friday, March 19, at 7 p.m. at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Tickets range from $10 to $20.

Colorado State added its 26th football prospect, and the third swiped from another school, when all-purpose back Tony Drake changed his commitment from Michigan to CSU, according to .

The Mesa State men’s and Fort Lewis women’s basketball teams are No. 1 in the NCAA Division II Central Region rankings. Also in the men’s rankings are Metro State (third), Fort Lewis (sixth) and Colorado Christian (eighth). The Adams State women are third, followed by Colorado Mines (eighth) and CSU-Pueblo (10th).
