DENVER—Beer drinkers at the Colorado State Fair could get more freedom under a proposal advancing in the state Legislature.

A bill headed to the House for a vote would end the fair’s ban on open containers of alcohol outside vendor areas.

Currently beer drinkers at the fair are confined to beer tents. The bill would still ban open containers of alcohol in the fairway.

Officials from the state fair support the change and testified in its favor when it passed a House committee Wednesday. The measure now awaits a vote of the full chamber.
