Down and out:
Torah Bright, the reigning champion of the X Games superpipe, withdrew from the competition after a hard crash Thursday morning in practice. The Australian, who has qualified for the Olympics, suffered a concussion and was taken to a hospital and released.
Hugfest:
Dagny McKinley is spreading the warmth. The Steamboat Springs resident was out to set the Guinness record for hugs in a 24-hour period. McKinley started at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, and 11 hours in she was at 2,400 hugs. Everyone she hugged was asked to sign a form for verification. The record is 5,001, and she was staying at the venue until the last worker left.
Back at it:
Crowd favorite Simon Dumont had a big fall Tuesday but plans to compete this weekend in some, if not all, of his ski disciplines, including the superpipe.
