A Weld County jury today found 29-year-old Jorge Medrano-Bustamante of Greeley guilty of vehicular homicide, drunken driving and other offenses in connection with a car crash near Kersey last year.
The rollover killed passengers Abdiel Morales-Sanchez, 15, and seriously injured 19-year-old Jose V. Medrano-Frias.
On March 21 2009, Bustamante drove his car off Weld County Road 53 at County Road 58, where it rolled before crashing into a utility pole.
Bustamante suffered moderate injuries, the Colorado State Patrol said at the time of the crash.
Besides drunken driving and vehicular homicide, he was also convicted on charges of vehicular assault and leaving the scene of an accident.
He faces up to 24 years in prison when he is sentenced on March 2, according to the Weld County District Attorney’s Office.
