Colorado Mines’ Sean Armstrong was chosen the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men’s basketball player of the week for the East Division.
Armstrong, a junior guard from Blue Springs, Mo., averaged 17.5 points and 4.5 assists in the Orediggers’ road victories over Metro State and Regis last week.
• Western State’s Amber Murray was named the RMAC women’s player of the week for the West Division. Murray, a two-time selection this season, averaged 28.5 points in the Mountaineers’ wins over Mesa State and Western New Mexico. The senior guard from Howe, Texas, is averaging 17.6 points overall.
Fundraiser to fight cerebral palsy.
Former major- league pitcher Brian Fisher, in conjunction with Denver firefighters, will host his annual pool tournament Friday and Saturday to raise money for cerebral palsy research. Fisher’s tournament is played in memory of his son Kyle, who died of the disease in 1997 at age 6.
Fisher, a Hinkley High School product, made his major-league debut with the New York Yankees in 1985 at age 23. He had a career record of 36-34, finishing with the Seattle Mariners in 1992. For more information on the pool tournament, call 303-691-9339.
