Getting your player ready...

If women make up more than half of the global population, as countless studies have estimated, then aiming a show exclusively at them would seem like a smart marketing strategy.

“Girls Only” has certainly borne that out. The Denver-based comedy show, founded by Barbara Gehring and Linda Klein in 2007, is the longest-running active stage production in the state. And now it’s heading to Canada.

“The show continues to enjoy a long-running engagement in Denver. We had a very successful extended run in Des Moines and now we are excited to bring this delightful show to audiences in Manitoba,” said Randy Weeks, president of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, in a news release.

“We took it to a theater festival in Winnipeg, Canada (the Winnipeg Fringe Festival), to see if it had legs outside of our fan base, and people seemed to be clamoring for it,” Klein, a Winnipeg native, told The Denver Post in 2008.

The show is slated to run at the Tom Hendry Theatre at the Manitoba Theatre Centre Warehouse March 18-April 3, and you can bet that sellout performances (which are common here) will prompt an extension.

The show is playing locally at the Garner Galleria Theatre at the Denver Performing Arts Complex. Call 303-893-4100 or visit for tickets.
