GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A Rifle-based gasoline wholesaler and retailer is working to open a fueling station in western Colorado for vehicles that run on compressed natural gas.
Swallow Oil President Kirk Swallow has applied to the town of Parachute for zoning approval to open the station at a gasoline station there. Swallow also has applied for a grant from the Governor’s Energy Office to open a station in Rifle.
Swallow says EnCana Oil & Gas (USA), Williams Production RMT and Bill Barrett Corp. are helping him with infrastructure and have committed to convert some of their vehicles to use natural gas.
Swallow Oil helped form a company called Rocky Mountain Alternative Fueling to undertake the new venture.
Swallow says it can cost at least $700,000 to install a station.
