COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—The city of Colorado Springs has sold nine surplus buses from its FREX service from Denver-to-Colorado Springs for $1.44 million.

The city said Monday that the York County Transportation Authority in Pennsylvania bought the surplus FrontRange Express buses.

The Colorado Department of Transportation has an 80 percent share in the buses and has already approved use of state proceeds to keep FREX running this year. The Colorado Springs City Council is set to decide Tuesday whether local proceeds also can be used to operate the bus service for the rest of the year.

If the City Council rejects the idea, Friday would be the last day the bus service runs.
