FORT COLLINS, Colo.—Wham-O Inc., whose toys include the Frisbee and Hula Hoop, is acquiring a Colorado-based company known for its ecofriendly toys.

Emeryville-Calif.-based Wham-O and Fort Collins, Colo.-based Sprig Toys Inc. announced the deal Tuesday. The private companies did not disclose terms.

Together the companies plan to launch a line of preschool products under the new Wham-O Jr. brand.

Sprig co-founder Justin Discoe says the deal lets his company focus on designing toys while using Wham-O’s advertising and manufacturing power.

Sprig uses a proprietary material called Sprigwood that is made from reclaimed wood and recycled plastic.

Discoe expects Sprig to keep all nine of its employees in Fort Collins.
