The 39th Gospel Music Festival and Awards may seem an odd fit for Valentine’s Day, at least until you realize that it is, after all, taking place on a Sunday, and that there’s nothing wrong with a little group celebration over the Hallmark holiday “needs” of some cutesy couples. The Colorado Gospel Music Academy and Hall of Fame hosts the event, starting at 3 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church. It will feature Omaha’s acclaimed Salem Baptist Church Mass Choir and other guests. Admission is free, but seats go fast, so arrive closer to 2 p.m. Call 303-322-5200 for details.
Dosh, the simplistic musical moniker of Minneapolis native Martin Dosh, belies the jazzy, adventurous nature of his songs. As a touring multi-instrumentalist for acclaimed songwriter Andrew Bird, Dosh gets to try his hand at dozens of styles in a single concert. As a solo act, he creates instrumental, rhythm- driven compositions that fall somewhere between Weather Report, DJ Shadow and Bird’s own restless neo-classicism. Dosh plays Tuesday at the Marquis Theater with Eyedea & Abilities, Whiskey Blanket and Ichiban. $10-$12.
