GREELEY, Colo.—A 16-year-old boy involved in an accident with a school bus that killed his sister and the boy’s father are facing charges for the crash.

Authorities say that Francisco Mendoza-Gonzales was driving without a license and they accuse his father, 37-year-old Cesar Mendoza-Ramirez, of allowing him to drive.

Investigators say Mendoza-Gonzales was making a turn from a stop sign when his car was hit broadside by a school bus on Feb. 2. Mendoza-Gonzales’ 15-year-old sister, Karla Mendoza-Gonzales, was killed in the crash.

The teenager was charged with careless driving resulting in death and failure to yield right of way emerging from a driveway and driving without a license. His father is charged with allowing an unlicensed driver to operate a car. They’re due in court April 29.
