MINNEAPOLIS — Brett Favre is thanking his fans, though he’s mum on whether he will return to the Minnesota Vikings next season.

In a message posted on his website Thursday, Favre said that while the season didn’t end with a trip to the Super Bowl, “I couldn’t have enjoyed this season any more than I did.”

Favre said he returned for his 19th season “with some trepidation” but “couldn’t be happier about my decision.”

“The coaches, staff, and especially teammates who joined me in the season’s journey are true professionals, and better yet, friends. I felt completely comfortable from Day One as a member of the Minnesota Vikings, and it’s a tribute to the entire organization that accepted me with open arms. It was truly an amazing experience to be a part of the Minnesota Vikings this past season,” the post reads.

Favre signed a two-year contract with the Vikings last August, but coach Brad Childress has said he doesn’t have a deadline for Favre’s decision. A group of Vikings fans that wants the 40-year-old Favre to return next season has taken out advertising space on a digital billboard near his home in Hattiesburg, Miss.

In his posting, Favre thanked fans “in Minnesota, in Wisconsin, and across the country” for “all of the support and goodwill that you’ve shown . . . Regardless of what the future holds, I want everyone to know that I will cherish the memories of the past year.”
