OMAHA, Neb.—A former Nebraska football player has been ordered to serve five years in prison for molesting a 12-year-old girl.
During Friday’s sentencing hearing in Douglas County District Court, 34-year-old Demond Finister of Omaha was given the maximum sentence for third-degree sexual assault. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for a decade.
District Judge Thomas Otepka said at the hearing that Finister choked, shoved and fondled the girl and threatened to kill her if she told.
Finister was a wingback and punt returner for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, lettering in 1997. He later played at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and on the Omaha Beef professional indoor football team.
