LOS ANGELES — Because of injuries to regular defensemen Adam Foote and Kyle Cumiskey, the Avalanche tonight will insert veterans John-Michael Liles and Ruslan Salei into the lineup for tonight’s game with the Los Angeles Kings at the Staples Center.
Avs captain Foote was still bothered by the back spasms that cut short his game Friday against Phoenix, and the team said Cumiskey suffered a concussion from a hit against the Coyotes. Both players traveled with the team to Los Angeles.
Avs coach Joe Sacco said he didn’t know how long either player might be sidelined, but neither would have played for the next two weeks anyway because of the Olympic break, which starts after tonight’s contest with the Kings.
Salei has played only one game this season, following back surgery and Liles has been a healthy scratch of late.
The Avs will start Craig Anderson in goal.
