Riley Nelson, Kevin Ulanski and Ed McGrane scored in a shootout Sunday to give the Colorado Eagles a 7-6 victory over the Rapid City Rush in a Central Hockey League showdown that matched the Northern Conference’s top teams at the Budweiser Events Center.
The game produced six goals in the first period. Eleven players scored overall. Rapid City emerged with a 70-67 lead over the Eagles in CHL points.
CSU finds success in softball.
The Colorado State softball team produced its first victory of the season, defeating Texas-San Antonio 5-1 at the Hotel Encanto Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M.
The Rams (1-4) lost the second game they played Sunday, falling 7-3 to Texas-El Paso.
CSU’s Rebecca Penland, a senior from Riverside, Calif., had a total of five RBIs in the two games. Kelli Eubanks, a sophomore from Troutdale, Ore., pitched a complete game in the Rams’ victory and finished with nine strikeouts.
Ritzenhein wins another national title.
Dathan Rit- zenhein won his third U.S. cross country championship Saturday in Spokane, Wash. The former University of Colorado star completed the men’s 12-kilometer course in 34 minutes, 34 seconds. Ritzenhein will compete for Team USA at the world cross country championships March 28 in Poland.
