“No Place for Hate” banners have no place in two Wheatland, Wyo., schools because they include the logo of one of the program’s major sponsors, the Gay and Lesbian Fund for Colorado.
School-board members in Platte County School District 1, about 70 miles north of Cheyenne, refused to consider replacing the banners at a Monday meeting.
In January, the board voted 4-3 to remove the banners because of complaints.
The banners measure 3 feet wide and 6 feet long, with the top two-thirds devoted to the words “No Place for Hate” and the school’s name. The lower portion displays sponsor names: Qwest, the David and Laura Merage Foundation, and the Gay and Lesbian Fund for Colorado.
Wheatland schools used the “No Place for Hate” program last year, but no banner with sponsor names accompanied the program, said Bill Templar, business manager for the Platte County School District.
More than 50 parents, students and residents attended the board meeting Monday. Heather McWilliams, The Denver Post
