FORT CARSON — Three Fort Carson soldiers serving in Afghanistan died in an improvised explosive device attack on their unit.

The Pentagon announced Thursday that the soldiers killed were with the 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. They died Saturday in Zhari province.

Those killed were: 24-year-old Staff Sgt. John A. Reiners of Lakeland, Fla.; 26-year-old Sgt. Jeremiah T. Wittman of Darby, Mont.; and 23-year-old Spec. Bobby J. Pagan of Austin, Texas.

Military officials released few details about the attack. Since military operations began after the Sept. 11 attacks, 43 soldiers from Fort Carson have been killed in Afghanistan. An additional 255 Fort Carson soldiers have died in Iraq. The Associated Press
