DENVER—Anthony Maiani and Brandon Vossberg had a goal and two assists each as second-ranked Denver maintained its conference lead with a 5-2 win over Michigan Tech on Friday.
The Pioneers (21-6-4, 15-4-4) scored three times in the third period to remain one point ahead of St. Cloud State for first place in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association with 34 points. Last-place Michigan Tech dropped to 5-23-1 overall and 4-19-0 in the conference.
Denver’s Cody Brookwell and the Huskies’ Malcolm Gwilliam exchanged first-period goals.
Tyler Ruegsegger’s goal with three minutes left in the second period gave Denver the lead for good. Kyle Ostrow, Maiani and Vossberg scored in the third period.
Marc Cheverie stopped 30 shots for the Pioneers. Kevin Genoe made 37 saves for the Huskies.
