DENVER—Sen. Mark Udall credits Colorado’s rules requiring large utility companies to produce one-third of its electricity from renewable sources by 2020 with creating 20,000 new jobs in Colorado.
A bill pending in Congress would extend similar rules to utility companies across the country.
Udall is speaking at a new energy summit in Aurora that focuses on ways Colorado can create jobs in that industry.
Udall says of the new jobs created since Colorado enacted its requirement, 1,500 jobs have been created in solar energy alone.
U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu will speak later Friday.
