CENTENNIAL, Colo.—Jurors have convicted a man of vehicular homicide and other charges in a crash that killed three people, including a 3-year-old boy in a suburban Denver ice cream shop.
Twenty-five-year-old Francis Hernandez, an illegal immigrant from Guatemala, was convicted Tuesday.
Prosecutors say he was driving an SUV that crashed into a truck, which in turn crashed into a Baskin-Robbins store in September 2008.
Two women in the truck were also killed.
Prosecutors say Hernandez ran a red light and was going more than 80 mph in a 40-mph zone.
Defense lawyers argue Hernandez’ cousin was driving the SUV and that the driver of the truck shared the blame because she had methamphetamine in her system.
The cousin was later killed in a shooting.
