Amazon’s Kindle DX digital reader needs to be “significantly” improved before it offers students the same value as printed textbooks, Princeton University said.

Students and faculty who tested the reader last semester said the device’s highlighting, annotation and skimming features needed improvement, the New Jersey university said Monday in a statement.

Princeton and four other U.S. universities began testing the Kindle DX in classes last year to see if students with e- readers could reduce paper use while performing at the same level as those using textbooks. Students’ acceptance of the device will affect how quickly can expand in the education market. Bloomberg News
