Georgia Sigala, who works for a nonprofit organization as an early intervention services coordinator, is running for the northwest Denver City Council seat vacated by Rick Garcia.
Sigala announced her campaign in a weekend news release. She joins state Sen. Paula Sandoval, a Democrat, in running for Garcia’s council seat.
Sigala has worked on the Denver Inter-Agency Transition Team, the Hispanic Education Advisory Council and the Career and Technology Education Business Advisory Board for Denver Public Schools.
Garcia recently was named regional director for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The council will officially declare his seat open March 5. A special election has been set for May 4. People wishing to run for the seat will have from March 5 until March 10 to collect and submit 100 signatures from registered voters in the district.
