A backcountry avalanche late Tuesday afternoon had rescue crews from Pitkin County searching into the night for potential victims beneath the snow in the White River National Forest.
The cause of the slide is not known and officials aren’t sure if anyone is beneath the deep snow in the area south of Aspen, said a spokeswoman for Mountain Rescue-Aspen.
