A second suspect has been arrested in the theft of a fallen airman’s dog tags, but investigators have not found the tags or other stolen property.
Dwain Boyd, 22, has been charged with felony theft, first-degree criminal trespass, conspiracy and obstruction, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.
Boyd is being held at the El Paso County Jail.
Denard Thompson, 29, was arrested earlier and also has been charged in the case. Both are suspects in the theft of belongings of the late Senior Airman Bradley R. Smith, 24, of Troy, Ill., from a car in a restaurant parking lot in Colorado Springs.
Smith was killed in an ambush near Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, on Jan. 3. His wife and mother had flown to Colorado this month for a memorial service at Fort Carson and to collect the possessions sent back from Afghanistan. They were having lunch at the Golden Corral on Waynoka Drive when someone smashed a rear window of their rental car and took Smith’s dog tags, two laptops, a digital camera and other items.
