DENVER—A husband and wife accused of sexually assaulting two children in their care pleaded guilty unexpectedly while their trial was under way.
Forty-seven-year-old Eric Torrez and 46-year-old Linda Torrez both entered their pleas Thursday after jurors had listened to hours of testimony. Prosecutors say the couple abused two children they were caring for during the mid-1990s.
Linda Torrez pleaded guilty to sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust, and Eric Torrez pleaded guilty to a litany of charges, including eight counts of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust. They are expected to be sentenced May 13.
