Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi will be in Broomfield on Monday as part of Democrats’ continuing road show highlighting the economic benefits of the $787 billion stimulus package to local communities.

The 10 a.m. event at 1stBank Center (formerly the Broomfield Event Center), where attendance is by invitation only, will highlight a recent $10 million federal transportation grant funding green upgrades to U.S. 36, including bus rapid transit and an 18-mile commuter bikeway.

Democratic Rep. Jared Polis of Boulder will host the event, which will include briefings for Pelosi on the project by members of the U.S. 36 Coalition. When completed, the project will include a managed toll lane, aimed at drivers seeking a more gridlock-free commute.

A parade of Cabinet secretaries, administration officials and lawmakers have visited Colorado over the past several months to highlight various projects being funded by the stimulus bill.

The Obama administration estimates the stimulus bill will create more than 2.5 million jobs nationwide.
