A man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Grand Junction this afternoon, police say.

No names had been released as of this evening.

Police responded to a report of domestic dispute at the Timbers Motel on North Avenue at about 2:20 p.m., said Grand Junction police spokeswoman Kate Porras.

Grand Junction Police Chief John Camper told NBC 11 News in Grand Junction that the man involved in the dispute with his family pulled out a knife and was shot in the doorway of his hotel room.

Witnesses told the TV station they heard two shots, and that the dead man’s wife and son were nearby at the time.

A team of local and state investigators, including the local district attorney’s office, is investigating, a standard procedure in officer-involved shootings, “to ensure a complete and accurate investigation,” according to a statement from the investigative team this evening.
