SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Forward Luke Harangody, Notre Dame’s leading scorer (24.1 ppg) and rebounder (10 rpg), might not return this season from a bone bruise to his right knee.
“There’s a chance he would not come back this season; there’s a chance he could. I think we’re week to week,” coach Mike Brey said Monday.
Harangody said he hopes to return this season, but could not give any timetable of when that would be.
Brey said Harangody, a senior, might not be ready to play even if the Irish advance to the NCAA Tournament.
Harangody was on pace to become the Big East’s all-time leading scorer with 1,324 points and six league games left. But with two games left, he needs 82 points to pass Syracuse’s Lawrence Moten as the league’s all-time scorer.
MWC reprimands Alford
ALBUQUERQUE — The Mountain West Conference reprimanded New Mexico coach Steve Alford “for his unduly provocative language toward an opposing student-athlete.”
In a video posted on YouTube, Alford can be heard directing a vulgarity at BYU forward Jonathan Tavernari while the teams shook hands after New Mexico’s 83-81 victory Saturday in Provo, Utah.
Footnotes.
Wagner fired coach Mike Deane, who went 95-113 over seven seasons with the Seahawks.
• Austin Freeman, Georgetown’s leading scorer (17 ppg) and top 3-point shooter, missed the Hoyas’ game against West Virginia because of a stomach virus.
