The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, built by Lockheed Martin Space Systems in south Jefferson County, passed a data- volume milestone this week.
Just completing its fourth year, the orbiter has collected 100 terabits — 100 trillion bits — of information. NASA officials said Wednesday the amount is more than three times the combined information gathered from all other missions that have flown farther than the moon.
