GOLDEN — Defending champion Sierra used a dominating fourth quarter Friday to run away from Thomas Jefferson in a 65-43 victory in the quarterfinals of the Class 4A boys state basketball tournament.

The top-seeded Stallions broke a 33-33 tie late in the third quarter at the Colorado School of Mines, embarking on a 32-8 run to earn a berth in next week’s final four.

Jahmall Fountain scored 16 points in the second half as the Stallions (24-2) won their 19th consecutive game. They remained unbeaten against 4A competition this season.

The Spartans (18-8), who dismissed four players from their team last weekend, including leading scorer Ray Riley, got a team-high 14 points from guard Shane Oliver.
