Avalanche right wing Chris Stewart was named the first star of the week by the NHL today after leading all scorers last week with nine points (five goals, four assists) in four games.
Stewart scored one goal and had one assist in a 3-2 loss to the Detroit Red Wings March 1, recorded one goal and two assists in a 4-3 victory over the Anaheim Ducks March 3, and scored his first NHL hat trick and had an assist in a 7-3 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night.
Stewart, 22, leads the Avs in goals (24), plus-minus (+13) and shots (172) and ranks second in points (24-27–51).
Tampa Bay Lightning center Steven Stamkos was named the second star and Florida Panthers defenseman Bryan McCabe was named the league’s third star.
