Denver police have linked a 25-year-old man with a lengthy record that includes kidnapping and assault to an incident Sunday in which officers fired on a suspect who raced a vehicle at an officer.
Joseph Fresquez remains at Denver Health Medical Center where he is being treated for a gunshot wound.
“He is being held on an outstanding warrant,” said police spokesman Sonny Jackson.
Police fired at a suspected stolen car on Sunday as it drove toward an officer at Federal Boulevard and Ellsworth Avenue. Later, a wounded Fresquez walked into Exempla St. Joseph Hospital and was transferred to Denver Health.
Fresquez’ arrest record is two-and-one-half pages long and includes kidnapping, assault, motor vehicle theft, failure to appear, possession of dangerous drugs and parole violation, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
