Denver police have linked a 25-year-old man with a lengthy record that includes kidnapping and assault to an incident Sunday in which officers fired on a suspect who raced a vehicle at an officer.

Joseph Fresquez remained at Denver Health Medical Center where he was being treated for a gunshot wound. He was being held on an outstanding warrant, police said.

Police fired at a suspected stolen car Sunday as it drove toward an officer at Federal Boulevard and West Ellsworth Avenue. Later, a wounded Fresquez walked into Exempla St. Joseph Hospital and was transferred to Denver Health. Fresquez’s arrest record includes kidnapping, assault, motor vehicle theft, failure to appear and possession of dangerous drugs.
