CORTEZ, Colo.—A southwest Colorado prosecutor has been arrested on charges of driving under the influence.

James Warren Wilson, district attorney for Montezuma and Dolores counties, was pulled over by a state trooper on Feb. 21 near Buena Vista, about 160 miles northwest of his district.

The arrest was reported Tuesday by the Cortez Journal.

Wilson declined to comment.

Wilson also faces charges of driving with an excessive amount of alcohol, possession of a weapon while under the influence of alcohol, careless driving and an open container violation. All the charges are misdemeanors.

The 57-year-old Wilson, a Republican, was first elected in 2004 and was re-elected in 2008. Before becoming an attorney, he served as a deputy sheriff.
